About the Face-to-Face Communication Course

In this course we are going to cover a broad spectrum of topics related to verbal communication.

  1. I’ll cover some of the basics related to body language, eye contact, and focus. These tips are appropriate for just about any kind of human interaction, even with friends and family members.
  2. I’ll share advice about one-on-one meetings. This might be a meeting with a direct report, with a peer, or with your boss.
  3. I’ll walk you through a range of tips to make group meetings more effective and efficient. I’m actually a big fan of group meetings when they are done the right way. I also think drama and conflict are important for meetings like this, and you might have some fun inciting conflict.
  4. I’ll give you a step-by-step plan to make your small group presentations significantly more effective. As you advance in your career, you will be asked more and more often to give formal and informal presentations, often with a goal of persuading the audience. Guess what: intellectual, fact-based arguments don’t always work as well you might think. You need to find a way to create an emotional connection, and introduce some tension with your audience. I’ll walk you through exactly how to do this.
